About us

 UNIcert®LUCE (Language Accreditation Unit for Universities in Central Europe) is an institute for accrediting language programs and exams within the UNIcert® system in the Czech and Slovak Republics. UNIcert® is a language education system, including exams, that takes into account the conditions of higher education. The output document in this education system is a certificate, which can only be awarded by universities that are members of the UNIcert® group and respect its statutes. Individual institutions have the opportunity to design their own language education programs within the UNIcert® system while adhering to basic criteria, as the system is open to certain modifications based on national and individual differences in various states and educational institutions.

UNIcert®LUCE is a collective body consisting of universities and their parts in the Czech and Slovak Republics. Its goal is to strengthen the quality and transparency of higher education language teaching and related exams within the region and beyond. The aim of UNIcert®LUCE’s activities is to become a centre of theoretical and practical knowledge and experience for language teachers, language testers, compilers of language study programs, language teaching providers, and other significant participants operating in higher education. Since 2018, UNIcert®LUCE has been a member of the Network of University Language Testers in Europe (NULTE), of which it is a co-founder. Currently, it is an associated member of the CEFR Companion Volume Implementation Toolbox (VITbox) project at the European Centre for Modern Languages in Graz.

The establishment of UNIcert®LUCE was approved by the CASAJC membership meeting on May 23, 2003. Accreditation is renewed every three years based on an audit conducted by representatives of the UNIcert® Scientific Committee.
